Forget those fancy boutique treatments and imported face masks that cost more than a weeks worth of groceries. A growing number of local beachgoers are claiming that the recent dark tint in the water at Strand Beach is actually a natural miracle for the skin despite some people making a fuss about what is actually in the mix.
While certain groups have been talking about sewage spills and ailing pipes near the Lourens River and the Pipe area some regulars on the sand are choosing to look on the bright side. The rumour spreading through the tidal pools is that the thick dark sediment currently hugging the shoreline is packed with organic minerals that leave the skin feeling suspiciously smooth.
BETTER THAN A BOTTLE
The Strand Spa trend seems to have caught on after a well known female Instagram influencer was spotted on the sand this week. She was seen lathering her arms in the dark silt like substance while her friend recorded her for a story. She told her followers that the texture was incredible and that her skin had never felt so exfoliated which is quite a win for something that is completely free.
The dark patches in the water which some critics claim are actually a result of the city’s struggling wastewater network have been described by fans as nature’s gift to the Helderberg. Even with a distinctive earthy aroma hanging in the air near the golf course it has not stopped the dedicated from wading in.

CITY SAYS SWIM ON
To be fair to the enthusiasts the City of Cape Town has been very firm about the situation. Officials have repeatedly stated that the water quality at Strand’s main recreational areas is well within safety limits. They have rejected claims of a coastline being destroyed and insisted that unless it has rained heavily the hard data shows the water is really very good for swimming.
Whether it is a scientific miracle or just a very unfortunate misunderstanding the Strand shoreline remains busy with people chasing that glow. Residents are being reminded however that while the mud might make your skin feel like silk it is probably best not to get any in your mouth no matter how many minerals you think are in there.

The beach is good nowadays but lots of foreigners
