Somerset West Dog Owners Insist Unleashed Golden Retriever Is “Friendly” Cyclist Unconvinced
Cyclists across Somerset West continue reporting tense encounters with unleashed golden retrievers accompanied by owners loudly insisting the animals are “very friendly.”
The latest incident occurred along a popular greenbelt route after a cyclist travelling peacefully at speed was suddenly intercepted by an enthusiastic golden retriever named Biscuit.

Witnesses claim the dog approached “with the energy of somebody late for a wedding.”
The cyclist narrowly avoided collision before hearing the owner shout the internationally recognized phrase: “Don’t worry he’s friendly!”
“That’s wonderful information emotionally” replied the cyclist while untangling himself from a shrub.
Dog owners however maintain golden retrievers pose no genuine threat due to their “gentle personalities” and inability to understand personal space.
One Somerset West resident defended her dog insisting he merely wanted “to greet the bicycle spiritually.”
Meanwhile Gordon’s Bay residents remain unconcerned.
“In our area if a dog chases you it usually belongs to a fisherman and has clear intentions” explained one harbour local.
Cycling groups have since requested stricter leash enforcement while dog owners countered by posting photographs of retrievers wearing birthday hats.
At publication time Biscuit was reportedly still attempting friendships with moving objects.
