A growing number of Strand fishermen are once again reporting devastating timing issues after arriving at fishing spots precisely one day after “the fish were running.”
The phrase now heard daily from Gordon’s Bay harbour to Macassar has become the single most repeated sentence in local fishing culture narrowly beating “just one more cast.”
Witnesses claim fishermen routinely arrive before sunrise carrying enough tackle to invade a small country only to encounter retired uncles casually announcing:
“You should’ve been here yesterday.”
According to local sources yesterday’s fishing conditions are always perfect.
The sea was apparently flat the water clean the wind gone and fish practically jumping onto hooks voluntarily.
One Somerset West resident reportedly heard about yellowtail “running like crazy” at least fourteen separate times without ever personally witnessing evidence.
Experts studying the phenomenon believe “yesterday” may no longer refer to an actual calendar day but rather a mythical fishing dimension inaccessible to ordinary people.
Meanwhile Gordon’s Bay harbour veterans continue describing impossible catches involving kob snoek and geelbek “as long as your leg.”
Photographic evidence however remains mysteriously unavailable due to dead phone batteries forgotten cameras and “the fish getting cleaned already.”
At publication time several fishermen were preparing for tomorrow while simultaneously warning newcomers they “just missed it.”
