Somerset West Estate Dam Now Contains Ducks Teenagers Fishing Illegally and One Shopping Trolley
Residents of an upmarket Somerset West estate have expressed mixed feelings after the community dam evolved into what experts describe as “a fully functioning suburban ecosystem.”
Originally marketed as a tranquil water feature promoting birdlife and serenity the dam now contains ducks suspicious teenagers fishing after dark and one shopping trolley of unknown origin.
Security personnel first noticed unusual activity after residents reported hearing whispered conversations and splashing noises near the reeds after sunset.
Investigations revealed local teenagers had established an informal fishing operation despite no confirmed evidence fish actually exist in the dam.
One Strand teenager reportedly claimed he caught “something huge” before losing it near the fountain.
Estate management remains particularly concerned about the trolley discovered partially submerged near a sign reading Protected Nature Zone.
Meanwhile the ducks appear entirely unbothered and have reportedly become “aggressively comfortable” around picnic baskets.
A Gordon’s Bay resident visiting friends in the estate described the situation as “basically a tiny harbour with stricter rules.”
At publication time residents continued debating whether the trolley constitutes litter public art or wildlife habitat.
